Artificial Intelligence (AI) in oncology: Medical I-Marging

Innovation brings interventional oncology further along the way to the 4th therapeutic pillar in cancer therapy.
Thanks to AI, segmentation of hepatic tumors (HCC) coupled with the detection of the ablation zone in an intraoperative scanner (CT) image and elastic MRI-CT fusion, we were able to anticipate the location of recurrence in 70% of patients presenting with local relapse. This result is a success for the Interreg Medical I-Marging project (a Franco-Swiss consortium that includes, among others, CHUV | Lausanne university hospital and IMACTIS). Further clinical validation is ongoing, with a focus on solution integration into the navigation workflow.
